4 Day Rwanda, Uganda Golden Monkey & Gorilla Safari

On arrival at Kigali International Airport, meet your driver guide and receive a short briefing about the journey ahead.

Depending on your arrival time, begin with a guided introduction to Kigali. The source itinerary includes the Presidential Museum and Kigali Genocide Memorial, together with a drive through selected areas of the city.

The Kigali Genocide Memorial should be visited respectfully and with sufficient time to understand its historical significance rather than treated as a quick sightseeing stop.

After lunch, travel north towards Musanze and Volcanoes National Park.

Where time and opening arrangements allow, an optional conservation focused visit may also be included before continuing to your lodge.

Check in later in the day and spend the evening preparing for the following morning’s golden monkey trek.

After an early breakfast, transfer to the designated briefing point for golden monkey tracking in Volcanoes National Park.

Meet the ranger team and receive guidance on the activity before heading into the forest.

Golden monkeys are associated with the bamboo rich habitats of the Virunga region. Follow your guides through the forest in search of a habituated group and, once located, observe their behaviour during the permitted viewing period.

After completing the trek, return for lunch.

Later in the day, begin the road journey towards the Rwanda Uganda border  into southwestern Uganda and towards Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Arrive at your lodge later in the day and settle in for dinner and overnight.

After an early breakfast, transfer to your designated gorilla trekking briefing point.

Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers will explain the trekking procedures, safety guidelines and appropriate behaviour around the gorillas before you enter the forest.

Accompanied by ranger guides and trackers, begin your trek in search of your assigned habituated mountain gorilla family.

Trekking duration and difficulty vary depending on the gorillas’ location and the terrain. Visitors should be prepared for steep slopes, dense vegetation, mud and potentially several hours on foot.

Once the gorillas are located, you will have the opportunity to observe the family for the regulated viewing period while following the instructions of your ranger guides.

Because trekking finish times vary, a packed lunch may be provided or recommended depending on your confirmed arrangements.

After completing the trek, continue towards Lake Bunyonyi.

Arrive later in the day, check in at your lodge and spend the evening relaxing.

After breakfast, enjoy a boat ride on Lake Bunyonyi.

Explore part of the lake with a local guide, taking in the surrounding hills and islands while learning about local stories and communities connected to the area.

After the boat experience, begin the journey towards the Katuna border.

Your safari ends on arrival at the airport or another agreed drop off point in Kigali.
