6 Day Uganda Gorillas, Chimpanzees & Wildlife Safari

Your safari begins with pick-up from Entebbe or Kampala, where you will meet your driver guide and start the journey west towards Kibale National Park.

Travel through Uganda's countryside towards the Fort Portal and Kibale region, passing towns, farmland and tea-growing areas along the way. Stops can be made during the journey for lunch, refreshments and comfort breaks as arranged.

Arrive in the Kibale area later in the day and check in at your lodge.

Spend the remainder of the afternoon relaxing and enjoying the forest surroundings ahead of the following morning's chimpanzee tracking experience.

Depending on your arrival time and interests, an optional nature walk or visit to one of the surrounding attractions may be arranged separately.

After an early breakfast, transfer to the designated chimpanzee tracking briefing point.

Meet your ranger guides for an introduction to the tracking procedures before entering Kibale's tropical forest in search of a habituated chimpanzee community.

Listen for chimpanzee calls and watch for movement through the forest as your guides follow signs of the group's location. Along the way, you may also encounter other primates, forest birds and additional wildlife.

Once the chimpanzees are located, observe their behaviour during the regulated viewing period while following your ranger's instructions.

After completing the trek, return for lunch before continuing south towards Queen Elizabeth National Park.

The journey introduces another side of western Uganda as the forest landscapes around Kibale give way to the open country surrounding Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Arrive at your lodge later in the day, check in and spend the evening at leisure.

Start early for a morning game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Explore the Kasenyi Plains and surrounding wildlife areas with your driver guide, searching for elephants, buffaloes, Uganda kobs, waterbucks and other savannah species. Lions may also be encountered, while leopards are among the more elusive predators your guide will look for.

After the game drive, return to your lodge for breakfast and some time to relax.

In the afternoon, head to the Kazinga Channel for a boat safari. This natural channel links Lake George and Lake Edward and provides a productive setting for wildlife viewing from the water.

Look for hippos, Nile crocodiles and numerous waterbirds, while elephants, buffaloes and other animals may also be seen along the shoreline.

Return to your lodge after the cruise for the evening.

After breakfast, check out and travel towards the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Explore the area on a game drive, with particular attention to the large trees where Ishasha's well known tree climbing lions may sometimes be found resting.

The lions are wild and sightings cannot be guaranteed, but Ishasha also offers opportunities to encounter elephants, buffaloes, topis and other savannah wildlife.

After the game drive and lunch as arranged, continue towards Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

The landscape changes noticeably as you leave the savannah and travel towards the forested highlands surrounding Bwindi.

Arrive at your lodge later in the day, check in and spend the evening preparing for the following morning's gorilla trek.

Today is dedicated to mountain gorilla trekking.

After an early breakfast, transfer to your designated gorilla trekking briefing point. Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers will explain the trekking procedures, safety guidelines and appropriate behaviour around the gorillas before you enter the forest.

Accompanied by ranger guides and trackers, begin your trek in search of your assigned habituated gorilla family. The duration and difficulty vary according to the gorillas' location, and trekkers should be prepared for hills, thick vegetation and uneven or potentially muddy terrain.

Once the gorillas are located, you will have the opportunity to observe them for the regulated viewing period. Watch their behaviour as they feed, rest, groom and interact within the forest while following the instructions of your ranger guides.

After completing the trek, return to your lodge and spend the remainder of the day resting.

After breakfast, check out and begin the return journey to Kampala or Entebbe.

This is a substantial road transfer day, with stops made along the route for refreshments, lunch where arranged and comfort breaks.

Arrival time will depend on your departure time, route, road conditions and traffic.

Your driver guide will drop you at your agreed location in Kampala or Entebbe, bringing your 6 day Uganda safari to an end.
