8 Day Luxury Uganda Gorilla, Chimpanzee & Lion Safari

On arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be met by your safari representative and transferred to your hotel.

After check in, the remainder of the day is at leisure. This first night allows you to rest after your international journey before beginning the road safari the following morning.

Depending on your arrival time, you can relax at the hotel, enjoy the gardens or spend time overlooking Lake Victoria.

After breakfast, meet your driver-guide and begin the journey west towards the Kibale region.

Travel through Uganda's countryside, passing towns, farms, banana growing areas and tea estates as you approach Fort Portal and Kibale.

A lunch stop will be arranged en route before continuing to your lodge.

Arrive later in the day and check in at your Hotel or Lodge. Spend the remainder of the afternoon relaxing, enjoying the surroundings or taking part in a lodge based activity if available and included in your arrangements.

This slower first travel day provides time to settle into the rhythm of the safari before the following morning's chimpanzee trek.

After an early breakfast, transfer to the designated chimpanzee tracking briefing point.

Meet your ranger guides and receive an introduction to the tracking procedures before entering Kibale's tropical forest.

As you walk through the forest, listen for chimpanzee calls and watch for movement in the canopy. Other primates, birds and forest wildlife may also be encountered along the way.

Once the chimpanzees are located, observe the habituated community for the regulated viewing period while following your ranger's instructions.

After completing the trek, return to Lodge for lunch.

The afternoon is left at leisure, allowing time to rest after the forest walk. Depending on the lodge's current offerings and your booking, you may choose to enjoy the property, take in the views or arrange an optional wellness or nature activity.

After breakfast, leave the Kibale region and travel south towards Queen Elizabeth National Park.

The route passes through the varied landscapes of western Uganda, with crater lake areas, agricultural countryside and views towards the wider Rwenzori region depending on weather and routing.

Arrive at Queen Elizabeth National Park and continue to Mweya Safari Lodge.

After lunch, the remainder of the afternoon is intentionally relaxed. Spend time at the lodge, enjoy the surrounding views and prepare for the following day's lion tracking and boat safari activities.

Begin the day early with a specialized lion tracking experience in the Kasenyi area.

Unlike a standard game drive, this activity is designed to provide a deeper introduction to lion ecology and conservation. Depending on the programme operating on the day, the experience may involve working with authorized guides or researchers to locate monitored lions and learn more about their movements and behaviour.

Wildlife sightings and the proximity of individual lions cannot be guaranteed.

Return to the lodge after the activity for lunch and some time to relax.

In the afternoon, head to the Kazinga Channel for a boat safari. Look for hippos, Nile crocodiles and numerous waterbirds, while elephants, buffaloes and other wildlife may also be seen along the banks.

The boat cruise provides a slower paced contrast to the morning's land based activity.

Return to Mweya Safari Lodge for dinner and overnight.

After breakfast, leave the central sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park and travel south towards Ishasha.

Spend time exploring the sector with your driver-guide, searching for the tree climbing lions for which Ishasha is particularly known. They may sometimes be seen resting in large trees, although sightings cannot be guaranteed.

Other wildlife may include elephants, buffaloes, topis and additional savannah species.

After lunch, continue towards Bwindi Impenetrable National Park through the highlands of southwestern Uganda.

Arrive later in the afternoon and check in at your hotel or Lodge.

Spend the evening at leisure and prepare for the following morning's gorilla trek.

After an early breakfast, transfer to your designated gorilla trekking briefing point.

Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers will explain the trekking procedures, safety guidelines and appropriate behaviour around the gorillas before you enter the forest.

Accompanied by ranger guides and trackers, begin your trek in search of your assigned habituated gorilla family. Trekking duration and difficulty vary depending on the gorillas' location and the terrain.

Once the gorillas are located, you will have the opportunity to observe the family for the regulated viewing period while following the instructions of your ranger guides.

After completing the trek, return to Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge for lunch and a relaxed afternoon.

This final full safari day is intentionally kept light after the trek, giving you time to rest and enjoy the lodge.

After breakfast, begin the return journey to Entebbe.

This is a long road transfer day, with stops made along the route for lunch, refreshments and comfort breaks.

The source itinerary includes a stop at the Uganda Equator at Kayabwe for photographs, refreshments and souvenir shopping.

Continue towards Entebbe, with arrival time depending on departure time, traffic, road conditions and the duration of stops.

Your driver guide will drop you at your hotel or Entebbe International Airport.
