3 Day Kibale Chimpanzee Tracking & Bigodi Wetland Safari

Your safari begins in Entebbe, where you will meet your driver-guide and set off for western Uganda. The journey takes you away from the busy surroundings of the capital region and into the greener countryside as you travel towards Fort Portal and the Kibale area.

Along the way, the changing scenery offers a good introduction to rural Uganda, with farms, villages, tea growing areas and the rolling landscapes for which this part of the country is known.

Continue towards Kibale National Park, an extensive tropical forest particularly renowned for its diversity of primates. The park is home to 13 primate species, with chimpanzees being its best-known residents.

You will arrive at your lodge later in the day and check in for the evening. The remainder of the day is at leisure, giving you time to relax after the drive and prepare for the following morning's chimpanzee tracking experience.

Today is dedicated to exploring the Kibale area, beginning with one of Uganda's most sought after primate experiences.

After an early start, transfer to the chimpanzee tracking briefing point, where park rangers will introduce you to the tracking guidelines before you enter the forest. Accompanied by an experienced ranger guide, follow forest trails in search of one of Kibale's habituated chimpanzee communities.

As you move through the forest, listen for their distinctive calls and watch for movement in the trees. Once a chimpanzee community is located, you will have an opportunity to observe the animals and their social behaviour at close range, subject to the regulations governing the tracking experience. Other primates and forest wildlife may also be encountered along the way.

Later in the day, visit Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary for a guided nature walk. This community based conservation initiative protects an important wetland habitat and provides opportunities to see monkeys, butterflies and numerous bird species.

Beyond wildlife, Bigodi offers an interesting look at how tourism and conservation can support communities living alongside Kibale's forests.

Return to your lodge after the day's activities for your final night in Kibale.

Enjoy breakfast at the lodge before beginning the return journey to Entebbe.

Drive east from the Kibale region through western and central Uganda, with a lunch stop along the way. The journey provides another opportunity to enjoy the countryside before returning to the Entebbe area later in the afternoon or evening, depending on traffic and road conditions.

On arrival, your driver-guide will transfer you to your hotel or Entebbe International Airport, depending on your onward arrangements.
